The unrelenting pressure to find someone, anyone (?), to love in February can run a close second to the sinking feeling of realizing you have no one to plant a kiss on as you usher in the new year.
Am I right?
But, fret no more…this year, take control of your mental health and do Valentine’s YOUR WAY. Whether you plan to spend February 14 with loved ones, or decide to have a Netflix and popcorn kinda night by yourself, do Valentine’s Day the way you want! Forget the couple-hype! Remember folks…Valentine’s Day is a made-up Hallmark holiday and a genius marketing opportunity!
Here are some ideas for an alternative Valentine’s Day that is sure to give you warm fuzzies and share the love:
- Consider spending time with FRIENDS AND FAMILY that you love and cherish. Bake cookies, write a song, share a poem. Let “your people’ know how much they mean to you.
- Think about hosting a GALENTINE’s PARTY with several single friends to celebrate the joy of being single. Dress fancy (or comfy!), give cards, eat chocolate and dance. Celebrate friendship. And, lucky you, Galentine’s Day is officially February 13, so you can start the celebration early!
- VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME. Find a nursing home or a group home that houses people who don’t usually have visitors. Share a meal, play a game or make a craft with someone (or many people) who seek human connection.
- DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY. Read a book, watch a movie, make your own spa, grab a bite to eat. The list of fun things to do is endless, and spoiler alert…activities in this month are not exclusive to happy couples just because they are advertised as such!
- REJOICE in doing whatever you want, whenever you want. Think about the paradox of people wanting the opposite of what they have and celebrate it. Imagine how many busy women just want a chance to relax and unplug, while not debating the deeper meaning of love and life.
- Be 100%, undeniably YOU… YOU are amazing. YOU are special. YOU are unique. LOVE YOURSELF, today and everyday.
